Women Outnumber Men in Skill Testing for Technical and Vocational Courses in Koshi Province

Jan 01, Kathmandu - In Koshi province, the number of women who took the technical and professional skills test is significant compared to men.

According to the 'TVET Profile' released with the support of the Ministry of Social Development and Swiss Contact, the participation of women in the skill test has reached 53.9 percent.

According to the latest statistics presented in the regional awareness program of Koshi province, out of total 47 thousand 958 participants, 25 thousand 833 are women, while the number of men is limited to 22 thousand 120 i.e. 46.1 percent. This has made clear the growing attraction and activism of women in technical fields which are traditionally considered to be men's domain.

The youth of Koshi region participated the most in the automobile sector at 18.1 percent. Similarly, 16.4 percent involvement in photography, 12.4 percent in business and 11.8 percent in hospitality industry has been seen. According to the report, participation in fields like textiles and sewing and weaving is encouraging, but in fields like library and information science, handicrafts and construction, the interest of the youth is very low.
