Jan 02, Kathmandu - The Nepali Congress's special general convention delegates have demanded that the party's special general convention be held from Paush 27 to 28 as per Article 17 (2) of the party statute. They held a press conference today and drew attention to the fact that the special general convention must be held within three months, i.e., Paush 28, as per the statute's deadline for registration applications for the special general convention.
The demand for a special general convention was made by the general convention delegates Devraj Chalise, Pramoda Hari Guragain, Manoj Mani Acharya, Subash Pokharel, Narayan Prasad Bhattarai and others, even though the central working committee had set the date for the regular general convention from 26 to 28 Paush, but the programs on the schedule had been postponed. They informed that in order to hold the 15th general convention within the time limit specified by the statute (2082 Mangsir), otherwise a special general convention would be called as per Article 17 Clause (2) of the party statute, on 29 Ashwin, 2,488 (54 percent) general convention delegates from all over the country had registered a petition with their signatures at the central office demanding a special general convention.
They have also mentioned that in the special political situation after Bhadra 23 to 24, they have been continuously raising their voices about the inevitability of a general convention to make the Nepali Congress stronger, more dynamic and in line with the people's sentiments, to formulate contemporary policies and to take special decisions for party reconstruction with new energy and leadership.
