Jan 03, Kathmandu - The CPN (UML) has recommended the name of party chairman KP Sharma Oli from Jhapa constituency number 5 for the House of Representatives elections to be held on Falgun 21. The decision was taken at the regional coordination committee meeting held on Saturday, informed Tulsi Karki, secretary of UML Jhapa.
According to Karki, the meeting of the Regional Coordination Committee Region No. 5 held on Saturday decided to recommend the single name of Chairman Oli.
With this recommendation, Oli is contesting the election for the seventh time, having served two Constituent Assembly and five House of Representatives. The former Prime Minister and UML Chairman had won from Jhapa 5 by a wide margin in the previous 2079 election. He won by a margin of 28,576 votes over his nearest rival.
He was elected as a member of the House of Representatives from Jhapa-6 in the first general election after the establishment of the multi-party system in 2048 BS and was re-elected to the House of Representatives from Jhapa-2 in the mid-term elections of 2051 BS. Chairman Oli was elected to the House of Representatives from Jhapa-6 in 2056 BS. Chairman Oli, who was defeated in the first Constituent Assembly election in 2064 BS, was elected as a member of the Constituent Assembly from Jhapa-7 in the elections held in Mangsir, 2070 BS.
