Winter Cold Wave Sparks Health Warnings in Terai Region

Jan 03, Kathmandu - Winter has begun. Life is becoming difficult in the Terai due to the cold wave. Doctors have requested that necessary precautions be taken in the use of such devices as fires, coal burning, heaters, and geysers are used to keep the body and room warm during winter.

Deaths and hospitalizations cases are increasing every year due to the lack of precautions in the use of these devices. Just a few days ago, a 38-day-old baby died while sleeping on a coal stove in Surkhet, and three members of the family fainted.

If the ventilation system in the house is not good while using various heating devices, toxic gas like 'carbon monoxide' can accumulate in the room. This gas is odorless, colorless and tasteless, and prolonged exposure to it can cause serious health problems or even death.
