Jan 05, Kathmandu - Authorities have apprehended three individuals for allegedly duping multiple victims by promising lucrative employment opportunities in the United Kingdom.
The suspects include 39-year-old Indra Bahadur K.C. of Rapti Rural Municipality-1, Pyuthan; 40-year-old Aite Tamang of Thakre Rural Municipality-5, Dhading; and 34-year-old Bijay Gurung of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-15.
According to police reports, Indra and Aite collected a total of NPR 1.3 million from seven victims by promising to send them to the UK for employment. Meanwhile, Bijay received NPR 500,000 from a single victim under similar pretences. All three suspects have since gone into hiding after collecting the money.
Based on complaints, Kathmandu District Police Office Teju assigned a team to investigate the case. The police arrested Indra and Aite from Gongabu, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-26, on Thursday, and Bijay from Kathmandu Metropolitan City-14 on Sunday.
The suspects are currently in police custody for further investigation. Indra and Aite have been taken to Kathmandu District Police Office, while Bijay has been sent to the Department of Foreign Employment in Tahachal, Kathmandu, for necessary legal proceedings.
