Jan 06, Kathmandu - The Communist Party of Nepal (UML) has announced its claim to seven seats in the upcoming National Assembly elections, asserting one seat from each province. Following a secretariat meeting on Monday, Deputy General Secretary Lekraj Bhatt shared these details with the media, indicating that the party aims to secure these seats across the country.
However, Bhatt clarified that candidate selection within clusters is still underway. The final decisions on candidates for each province, including which women will contest from specific regions, will be made by party President KP Sharma Oli after further discussions.
The UML has entrusted President Oli with the authority to finalize candidate names after consultations with Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba. The two parties are working together to field a combined candidate list for the election scheduled for Magh 11.
“We have proposed seven seats, one from each province, but the final list has not been finalized yet. The decision on who will contest from which province, especially regarding female candidates, will be made after President Oli's consultation with Deuba,” Bhatt said.
The UML leader also mentioned that both parties have reached an initial agreement to contest the election together, with final candidate distribution still in progress.
