Jan 06, Kathmandu - A pickup van carrying 29 quintals of maize that had evaded customs duties has been seized from the Nepal-India border area in Susta, West Nawalparasi.
A team of the Armed Police Force and the Nepal Police have seized 98 sacks of maize weighing 29 quintals from Sakardinhi, Susta Rural Municipality-5.
DSP Govinda Bahadur KC of the Armed Police Force No. 26 Battalion Headquarters said that the goods were seized by an Armed Police Force team on patrol while they were being transported by evading customs duties. The pickup vehicle (Lu 3 Cha 3326) used in transporting the maize has also been seized.
The Armed Police Force has stated that the market value of the maize is Rs 300,000 and the value of the van is Rs 1.3 million. The seized goods have been handed over to the Maheshpur Customs Office.
The Armed Police Force has increased patrols at the border points and open areas after the increase in the number of goods being transported by evading customs duties from the same area.
