Discussions at the Ministry of Education on Various Demands of Teachers

Jan 06, Kathmandu - The Nepal National Teachers' Organization (NNTO) has stated that despite discussions with Education Secretary Chudamani Poudel on various demands of teachers including contribution-based social security fund, remote allowance of teachers and school employees, grades, transfers, implementation of the 9-point agreement, relief teachers, and posts, there has been no concrete progress.

The organization's president Hansa Bahadur Shahi and general secretary Prakash Khanal met with Education Secretary Poudel on Tuesday and discussed these issues. After the discussion, president Shahi.

Chairman Shahi informed that although there was a general discussion on making the grade of teachers similar to that of civil servants, no concrete decision has been made on other issues, except that, he received information from Education Secretary Poudel.

It is said that there has also been no clear opinion on the transfer of teachers. Chairman Shahi said that the Education Secretary informed that there is no immediate possibility, saying that the Ministry of Finance has not taken the process forward on the issue of remote area allowance.

Similarly, it is said that concrete work has not been done on the issue of contribution-based social security fund and the demands of teachers have been ignored as the upcoming budget is focused on the elections.

He said that all educational issues have reached a critical stage and the hope that the current government will solve the problems of teachers is fading.

Chairman Shahi said, "There is no positive progress. There has been talk of making the grade of teachers the same as that of civil servants (the Education Secretary)." There has also been no significant discussion on the transfer of teachers. The Ministry of Finance has not sent the remote area allowance. He said that there is no possibility. No concrete work has been done on the Social Security Fund either. He said that the budget is focused on the elections. A difficult situation has arisen on all issues. It did not seem like this government would do anything."
