Jan 08, Kathmandu - A free camp was held in Bagmati, Sarlahi, where 232 people underwent successful cataract surgery.

The camp began last Monday at the Tilganga Surgical Community Eye Center, Bagmati, located in Bagmati Municipality-12. 232 people who had cataract surgery and participated in the camp have regained their eyesight.

The center's in-charge, Ashish Bhatta, informed that 79 people underwent eye surgeries on the first day of the camp, 83 on the second day, and 70 on the third day.

The three-day surgery camp was jointly organized by Bagmati Municipality, Tilganga Surgical Community Eye Center, Bagmati, and Tilganga Eye Institute.

Screening camps were conducted in Bagmati Municipality, Barhathawa Municipality, Balara Municipality and Basabariya Rural Municipality since Paush 15. During the camp, 1,681 people were screened, and 350 were found to have cataracts.

Bagmati Municipality Health Branch Co-Coordinator Anand Mohan Jha said that many elderly patients could not be brought to the camp due to adverse weather conditions, and therefore, not all patients could undergo eye surgeries.

Dr. Rachana Singh Rana's team from the Tilganga Eye Institute was deployed at the camp, while Bagmati Municipality has made arrangements for food and accommodation for the patients, said Sant Bahadur Bishwakarma, the city's camp representative.

Since last year, the surgical center has been operating in the building of the health center in Bagmati Municipality-12 as a branch of the Tilganga Eye Institute, and the need to travel far for eye diseases in this area has been eliminated.

Bir Bahadur Khadka, 77, of Bagmati Municipality-7, said that it has been convenient to organize free camps in the villages from time to time. He expressed happiness saying that his eyesight has returned at the age of seventy-seven.
