Traffic Designates 29 Areas in the Valley with High Accident Rates as 'Black Spots', Urging Citizens to be Vigilant

Jan 09, Kathmandu - The traffic police have come up with a plan to work effectively to reduce accidents by identifying the areas where accidents are most common in the Kathmandu Valley.

The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, Ramshahpath, has prepared a list of areas in the valley where accidents are most common.

Based on the accident rate in recent years, SSP Nawaraj Adhikari of the Valley Traffic Police Office said that work is being done to reduce accidents by considering such places as 'black spots' and giving priority to them.

The traffic police has identified 29 places in the Valley and said that there are a lot of accidents around them. These include Koteshwor, Satdobato, Bhaktapur, Jawalakhel, Kandaghari, Kalanki, Maharajgunj, New Bus Park, Balkhu, Gaushala, Swayambhu, Sanepa, Singha Durbar, Gatthaghar, and Bouddha.

Traffic has pointed out that there are a lot of accidents on the roads leading to and from these main places. According to traffic data, there were 29 accidents in Koteshwor-Balkumari in the fiscal year 2081/82. There are 31 accidents in Kateshwor Jadibuti, 23 in Koteshwor-Gaurigaun, and 26 in Manibhairab Baneshwor.

Similarly, under Satdobato, there are 17 accidents in Gwarko-Satdobato, 16 in Satdobato-Hativan, and 19 in Satdobato Ekantakuna.

Meanwhile, 19 accidents have occurred in Sallaghari-Jagati, 23 in Sallaghari-Chardobato, and 14 in Jagati Sanga in Bhaktapur in a fiscal year.
