Government To Improve Health Insurance Problems

Jan 09, Kathmandu - Minister for Health and Population Dr Sudha Sharma Gautam has said that the government is continuing its efforts to improve the problems seen in the health insurance sector.

At a health insurance reform program organized today jointly by the Ministry of Health and Population and the Health Insurance Board and in collaboration with the German Development Cooperation, she said that the health insurance program is a top priority of the government.

Minister Gautam said that the government is thinking about how to make the health insurance program sustainable, and informed that there have been continuous discussions with experts and stakeholders to analyze the shortcomings of the health insurance program.

Dr. Raghuraj Kafle, Director of the Health Insurance Board, said that the health insurance program is an important aspect of social security and is not operated with the aim of making profit. Dr. Kafle emphasized that adequate budget, long-term commitment and clear policy debate are necessary for the health insurance program.
