Iran Lifts Ban on International Calls, Internet Shutdown Continues

Jan 13, Kathmandu - Anti-government protests continue in Iran. However, the Iranian government has taken an unexpected step to lift the ban on international calls, AP reported.

Internet services remain completely blocked. The AP reported that various media offices received calls from Iran on Tuesday.

Iranian residents have reportedly called the AP's Dubai bureau to inform them of the situation there.

Iranians have not been able to make international calls in this way before. However, Iran is still cut off from the world due to the lack of internet service.

More than 600 people have been claimed to have died in the protests that have been going on in Iran since December 28.

According to the US-based Human Rights Activist News Agency, at least 646 people have been killed in the protests that have spread across the country. It is feared that this number will rise further.
