Jan 15, Kathmandu - The Nepal Film and Cultural Foundation is organizing the ninth edition of the 'Nepal International Film Festival' (NIFF). The festival will run from Chaitra 19 to 23 (April 2-6, 2026).
According to the organizers, the ninth edition of NIFF will screen 88 films from 40 countries and will also include interactions with filmmakers. NIFF President KP Pathak said that the film festival is being organized with the aim of connecting Nepali films with the global film market.
The date of the festival has been announced in continuation of the slogan ‘A Celebration of Stories from Around the World, Nepal International Film Festival’. He said that in this edition, the films have been selected keeping the interests of the younger generation in mind.
He says, "To encourage young makers, we have also organized sessions including workshops on AI filmmaking. Our main effort will be to inspire hope in young audiences through films."
He said that so far, 800 films from more than 80 countries have applied for participation in the film festival. According to Pathak, "NIFF has selected 88 films from 40 countries, including feature films, short films, films made with AI and documentaries that have participated in world-renowned film festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Tribeca, Shanghai, Locarno, Busan, Goa and won awards."
The 'Festival Film Selection Committee' is confident that this edition of NIFF will be special as the best films and those of interest to the youth have been selected from among those 800 films. NIFF had opened a global application last June. It was announced that NIFF would start on Falgun 21. However, the date has been postponed by a month due to the general elections being held in Falgun.
