Tragic Fire Devastates Dalit Family Home in Udayapur

Jan 15, Kathmandu - A devastating fire broke out early Thursday morning at a Dalit family's home in Siruvani Village, Ward No. 16 of Triyuga Municipality, resulting in a loss of over 11 lakh rupees.

According to the Udayapur District Police Office, the incident occurred at around 3 a.m. when a fire accidentally ignited while Ram Bahadur Bishwakarma was tending to the stove in his house. The flames quickly spread, engulfing the home and its belongings.

The fire destroyed the house, stored grains, clothing, utensils, and other household items. Tragically, 35 goats and sheep kept in the barn also perished in the blaze. The house, constructed with tin roofing, wood, and mud, facilitated rapid fire spread. Due to the late hour and quick ignition, the fire could not be contained immediately.

The police report indicates that cash worth approximately 100,000 rupees, gold and silver jewellery, and other valuables inside the house were also lost. The total damage, including the livestock and household goods, is estimated at around 11.57 lakh rupees.

Firefighters and local residents, with assistance from Nepal Police, managed to bring the blaze under control by around 8:30 a.m. the same morning, following a report made to authorities after the fire was noticed.
