Akhil Revolutionary Locks TU

Jan 16, Kathmandu - The student organization Akhil (Revolutionary), close to the Nepali Communist Party, has locked the offices against the Supreme Court's order. Even after two weeks of the lockout, the Tribhuvan University officials and the home administration have not dared to open them. Action should be taken against the students who are openly challenging the law and locking them. The student organization locked the offices of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Deepak Sharma, Rector Prof. Khadga KC and Registrar Prof. Kedar Rijal on Paush 17. The offices of the three officials are closed due to the lockout.

Earlier, the Central Struggle Committee of the Nepal National Free Trade Union Congress and the Part-time Professors' Association had locked the university on Jestha 30. At that time, the lockout had been in place for about two weeks. A case had been filed in the Supreme Court demanding that the lockout be opened immediately. The Supreme Court had directed that the lockout be opened immediately, considering the negative impact that the indefinite lockout would have on the education, academic activities, other administrative work, and health services of students studying under TU under the Essential Services Operation Act 2014, if the opposite party, the police administration, and the officials of Tribhuvan University themselves ignored or neglected such unethical actions. The writ petition was filed on June 10, 2014. The lockout was opened immediately, considering the negative impact that the students studying under TU would have on their studies, academic activities, other administrative work, and even on the health services under TU under the Essential Services Operation Act 2014. The lockout was opened immediately after the interim order.

The Revolutionary Students' Organization has reportedly locked the departments of four subjects run as a self-reliant program. The organization had demanded that TRI adjust the fees after becoming a central department. The organization says that the lockout was triggered because the agreement reached after a 34-day-long agitation to reduce fees was not implemented.

Although those officials may be working in the offices of various bodies. But working in secret instead of sitting in the office can further increase the problem. For this reason, it is appropriate to open the lock through immediate talks and dialogue. If the situation continues as it is, the academic, financial and administrative work of TU will be seriously affected due to the fight between the two parties. The problem will not be solved by locking a sacred place like the school. The student organization and TU officials should follow the path of consensus and create an environment to open the lock immediately. This is the best option.
