Jan 18, Kathmandu - Nepal has lost to Thailand by eight wickets in the opening match of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers.
Chasing a target of 123 runs set by Nepal at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur today, Thailand achieved the victory in 16.5 overs, losing two wickets. For Thailand, Nathakan Chantham contributed an unbeaten 57 runs. She contributed 57 runs in 29 balls, hitting nine fours and a six.
Nanpat Koncharonkai scored 32 and Officer Suwanchonrathi scored 28 runs. Nepal's Sita Rana Magar took two wickets on the bowling front. Earlier, Nepal, who had won the toss and were invited to bat first, had lost all their wickets in the stipulated 20 overs and scored a total of 122 runs.
Bindu Rawal scored the highest score of 44 runs for Nepal. She hit six fours in her 56-ball 44. Similarly, Samjhana Khadka scored 26 runs in 11 balls. Rubina Chhetri scored 17 runs in 10 balls with two sixes and one four, while Pooja Mahato scored 12 runs. Apart from that, other players could not add double figures.
For Thailand, Thipatcha Puthawang took the most wickets with three, while Onnita Kamchompu took two and Chaninda Suththaruwang Suliporn Laomi and Sunida Chaturogratana took one wicket each. Nepal will play their second match against the Netherlands on 20th Magh.
