Jan 20, Kathmandu - Nominations are being registered across the country today for the upcoming election to the House of Representatives to be held on Falgun 21. The nomination process has begun in the office of the concerned election officer as per the agenda set by the Election Commission.
A copy of the citizenship certificate or voter ID card, and a proof that the name is included in the final voter list of the concerned constituency have been made mandatory for direct candidacy. The candidate will have to submit the nomination paper along with the details of one proposer and one supporter.
There is a provision that a person holding a position in the Government of Nepal, provincial government or local level and government-owned or grant-aided organization must submit proof of resignation from his/her position before filing his/her candidacy. In case of filing his/her candidacy on behalf of a party, a formal nomination paper provided by the central executive committee of the concerned party is also required, the commission has stated.
The candidate will have to submit a receipt of deposit of Rs 10,000, while women, Dalits, minorities and economically disadvantaged candidates will be given a 50 percent discount on the deposit. In case of economic hardship, a recommendation letter from the local level will be mandatory.
In addition, the candidate will have to submit a self-declaration letter, personal statement form, asset statement, pay stub and non-payment slip.
With the registration of nominations, the activities of political parties have intensified across the country, and the election buzz around the election offices has increased.
