Jan 20, Kathmandu - Bir Hospital has expanded its emergency room in view of the increasing patient load.
With the commissioning of 25 additional emergency rooms in the hospital, the total number of emergency rooms has increased. Earlier, the hospital was providing services through 30 emergency rooms.
According to the hospital's director, Dr. Dilip Sharma, the emergency room has been expanded to end the situation of having to treat two patients in one room.
He said that additional rooms are needed to provide comfortable and quality service to the patients. According to him, preparations are underway to add 20 more emergency rooms soon.
The newly constructed emergency room has also been equipped with cooking facilities for the patients' relatives. The room was built at a cost of about Rs 70 million from the Ministry of Health and Population and the hospital's internal resources, informed Director Sharma.
Currently, more than 3,000 patients come to Bir Hospital for treatment daily. Similarly, 70 to 80 minor and major surgeries are performed daily in the hospital. Currently, the hospital has 850 beds and 110 intensive care units (ICUs).
