Commission asked Chief Minister Karki for Clarification After he was Nominated by Oli

Jan 22, Kathmandu - The Election Commission has sought an explanation from the Chief Minister of the Koshi Province Government, Hikmata Kumar Karki. The Election Commission has asked Karki to submit a reply within three days, alleging that he violated the election code of conduct. He had participated in the nomination registration of CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli in Jhapa-5.

The Commission has sought an explanation from him as there is a provision that government ministers and employees are not allowed to attend such programs.

‘As the participation of the Chief Minister of the province government in the nomination process of candidates for the post of member of the House of Representatives would violate Section 5 (a) of the Election Code of Conduct, 2082, have you participated in the nomination program as written in the news published in the online media or not? It is requested to submit an explanation within three days of receiving this letter in person or through your representative, as decided,’ the Commission has said.
