Jan 23, Kathmandu - Personal Intelligence takes information from users' Google apps and tailors answers based on their history and interests.
For search specifically, Personal Intelligence can also use information from Gmail and Google Photos if the user gives permission.
For example, when shopping for clothes using AI mode, if this feature is activated, Google can recommend items similar to the brand or model that the user has previously purchased.
Similarly, if a flight ticket or other travel reservation is shown in Gmail, it can also recommend clothes that are appropriate for the destination and weather.
Personal Intelligence is based on Google's Gemini 3 AI model. According to the company, the AI model is not trained using information from Gmail inboxes or Google Photos.
However, prompts given by the user and responses received from AI mode are used. Google also warns that sometimes the recommendations may not be completely accurate, as the AI may not fully understand the context or may make incorrect connections between different topics.
Personal Intelligence is currently available as an experimental feature through Google Labs. Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the US will automatically have access to it when using the service in English and will be able to connect AI mode to Gmail and Google Photos.
However, the feature is currently only available for personal Google accounts and will be available to workspace accounts only later, Google said.
