Supreme Court Issues Show Cause Order in Resham Lal Chaudhary's Writ Petition

Jan 25, Kathmandu - The Supreme Court has issued a show cause order on a writ petition filed against the Election Commission's decision to cancel the candidacy of Resham Lal Chaudhary, the chairman of the Nagarik Unmukti Party, Nepal.

Chaudhary had filed a writ petition against the Election Officer's office and the concerned body, claiming that the Election Officer of Kailali 2 had illegally cancelled his candidacy. The writ petition demands that the Election Officer's decision be overturned and his candidacy upheld.

The Supreme Court, after a preliminary hearing, issued a show cause order seeking a written response from the opposing body. Now, the Election Commission and the Election Officer's office will have to present their side in court within the stipulated time limit.

This case has further raised concerns about the legal review of the election process and the decision to cancel the candidacy.
