Jan 27, Kathmandu - Strictly enforcing the implementation of the election code of conduct, the Election Commission has sought clarification from Balen Shah, Mahesh Basnet, Harka Sampang and Nicholas Bhusal. The commission became active after complaints were received that the statements, activities and campaign style given during the election campaign were against the code of conduct.
The commission has been concerned about issues such as words used from social media to public speeches, use of children, insulting expressions towards the community and misuse of election symbols. The commission has said that the statements of candidates who exert influence through social media can disrupt the election environment, saying that they have sought a response.
According to a commission source, everyone has been asked to provide clarification within three days. The commission has clarified that no one will be exempted on the basis of popularity or famous name, all candidates must follow the code of conduct.
In the meantime, the commission has also sought clarification from individuals and organizations other than the candidates on issues related to hate speech, organizing programs without permission and administrative decisions.
