Election Commission Appoints Monitoring Officers in All 77 Districts to Strengthen Implementation and Oversight of Code of Conduct

Jan 27, Kathmandu - The Election Commission has appointed monitoring officers in all 77 districts to make the implementation and monitoring of the code of conduct effective.

The Commission has assigned the responsibility of monitoring officers to the Assistant Chief District Officer (Assistant CDO) and Chief Fund Controller of all districts.

As per the decision of last Magh 9, the Commission issued a circular on Tuesday and assigned the responsibility to them. According to the new arrangement, the appointed officers have now got the right to directly use the seal of the 'Election Commission' during the monitoring of the election code of conduct.

The Commission believes that it will be easier to take immediate action against incidents of violation of the code of conduct by creating a mechanism at the district level. 'With meticulous monitoring from the district level, compliance with the code of conduct will be more stringent and effective,' said an official of the Commission.

In the last few days, the Commission has intensified the process of asking various candidates for clarification on the violation of the code of conduct. Now that monitoring officers will be active at the district level, the scope of clarification and action is expected to increase further. The Commission has taken this special step to make the elections clean, fair, and dignified.
