China and Britain on the Path to Improving Relations, Starmer Arrives in Beijing

Jan 29, Kathmandu - China and Britain are on the path to improving relations. Officials from both countries have acknowledged that there have been “ups and downs” in the relationship, but have said that dialogue and engagement between the two countries are indispensable.

The issue arose during a meeting between visiting British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.

British Prime Minister Starmer has arrived in Beijing for a three-day visit to China. This is the first visit to China by a British prime minister since 2018.

During the meeting, Chinese President Xi Jinping called on China and Britain to jointly advocate and practice multilateralism and free trade as countries that support it.

During the meeting, British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said that it is essential to build a “more sophisticated and mature relationship” between the UK and China.

During the visit, Starmer is scheduled to visit the historic Forbidden City and is expected to sign some bilateral agreements with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.
