Kathmandu Metropolitan City Plans to Transform Soldier's Ground with New Grass Project

Jan 31, Kathmandu - Kathmandu Metropolitan City is gearing up to revamp the south square of the Soldier's Ground by planting 'Bermuda grass' worth approximately 27 million Nepalese Rupees. According to Senior Engineer Arjun Aryal of the Public Works Department, this initiative aims to improve the open space accessible to the public.

Currently serving as a recreational area for youth, children, and senior citizens — used for playing, relaxing, and sunbathing — the site is set for improvements to reduce dust and mud, making it more user-friendly.

The plan involves levelling the ground and laying three inches of fertile soil before planting grass. Additionally, eight underground water collection pits, each 3 meters deep and 1.2 meters in diameter, will be constructed to enhance water management.

City officials expect these upgrades to boost public access, promote social integration, improve the environment, and enhance the urban beauty of the area.
