Feb 02, Kathmandu - Nepal has experienced a significant increase in remittance inflows during the first six months of the current fiscal year, with over 10.6 billion rupees received, marking a 39.1% rise compared to last year, according to the Nepal Rastra Bank's latest report on the country's economic and financial status.
In the same period last year, remittance growth was at 4.2%. In Paush alone, remittance inflows reached 192.62 billion rupees, compared to 122.44 billion rupees in December of the previous year.
During the review period, remittances in US dollars increased by 32.3%, totaling $750 million, up from last year's growth of 2.7%.
Additionally, Nepal's secondary income, mainly transfers, reached 11.68 billion rupees during this period, a rise from 8.33 billion rupees last year.
Nepali workers received 206,080 new work permits for foreign employment, with 194,733 renewed permits issued. Last year, the figures were 230,439 new permits and 162,628 renewals respectively.
This robust increase in remittance and foreign employment signals a positive trajectory for Nepal's economy amid ongoing global challenges.
