Consul General Meets with Speaker of Xichang

Feb 03, Kathmandu - Laxmi Prasad Niraula, Consul General of the Nepali Consulate General in Lhasa, has participated as a special guest in the session of the provincial parliament of the Xichang Autonomous Region of China.

He is the only foreign diplomat to participate in the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference of the Xichang Autonomous Region held in Lhasa on Magh 16 and the Fourth Session of the 12th People's Congress of the Xichang Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China held on Magh 17 in Dubai.

Only the Nepali Consul General in Lhasa gets the opportunity to attend the parliament as a special guest for a consular-level official of any country.

The previous day, at the People's Political Consultative Conference held on Magh 16, the government of the Xichang Autonomous Region presented the policies to be adopted by 2026.

As instructed by the same conference, the next day, at the parliament session held on Magh 17, Chairman of the Xichang Autonomous Region Government Gama Cheten presented a review of the basic work done by the government in 2025 and proposed major programs and budgets to be completed in 2026, according to the Nepali Consulate General.

On that occasion, Chairman of the Chinese People's Congress Local Committee and Chairman of the Xichang Autonomous Region People's Congress presented an explanation of the draft regulations on religious affairs.

On that occasion, the commitment to promote deep global relations by expanding the Xichang Autonomous Region as a high-level gateway to South Asia was expressed. This year's government policy, budget and program emphasize infrastructure development at border points with neighboring countries.

Immediately after the parliament meeting, the Consul General had a courtesy call on Speaker Danchen Lunchu, Deputy Secretary General of the Xichang  Government and Chairman of the Ethnic, Religious and Foreign Affairs Committee. During the meeting, the Consul General discussed various aspects of Nepal-China relations and expressed gratitude for China's support for Nepal's development so far.

He requested Speaker Lunchu to visit Nepal at an appropriate time, saying that both sides could benefit from the sisterly relationship between the Xichang Autonomous Region Parliament and the federal and provincial parliaments of Nepal and exchanging experiences.

Speaker Lunchu said that a good neighboring country like Nepal could benefit from the development of Xichang and China, and that he and his government were always ready for that.

Various other issues of bilateral interest were discussed during the meeting, and a commitment was expressed to be active in further strengthening the relations between the two sides.
