Feb 03, Kathmandu - In a concerted effort to bolster peace, security, and safety in the Kathmandu Valley, the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Office, Rani Pokhari, organized an interactive program today. The event saw the participation of all 21 metropolitan, municipal, and rural municipality chiefs, chief administrative officers, IT officers, and senior Nepal Police officials from Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur districts.
The primary focus of the program was an in-depth discussion on the installation, maintenance, technology, and coordination of CCTV surveillance systems across the valley. The initiative aims to improve crime control, traffic management, and enhance the safety of citizens' daily lives.
Senior Superintendent of Police Prabin Dhital highlighted the significance of the CCTV system, including features like ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition), AI-powered face recognition, and face detection. He shared insights on the current status of the system in the valley and outlined future plans for expansion and enhancement.
Lalitpur Metropolitan City's Chief Chiribabu Maharjan emphasized the importance of collaboration between local bodies and Nepal Police in deploying CCTV cameras. He suggested that technical standards and specifications should be standardized in cooperation with all municipalities to ensure seamless integration.
During the interactive session, local government officials and representatives discussed challenges faced in installing and operating CCTV systems, proposing solutions related to fiber optic connectivity, unified system integration, and coordination. They expressed strong interest in collaborative efforts to overcome technical and logistical hurdles.
Technical matters raised during the session were addressed by Senior Technical Police Officer E. Gopal Bahadur Regmi. The event concluded with IGP Eshwar Karki reaffirming the Nepal Police's commitment to strengthening cooperation with local governments and expressing gratitude to all participants for their engagement.
Following the formal proceedings, attendees had the opportunity to visit the CCTV control room at the District Police Office, Kathmandu, located in Bhadrakali, to observe the surveillance system in action.
