Harvard Demands $1 Billion in Damages

Feb 03, Kathmandu - Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday that his administration is seeking a $1 billion settlement from Harvard University and will no longer engage in any future partnerships with the institution.

Posting on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump stated that the demand for compensation has been formally presented and emphasized that his administration intends to sever ties with Harvard moving forward.

Trump’s officials have accused several prestigious universities, including Harvard, of promoting a so-called “Woke” ideology. They alleged that these institutions failed to provide adequate security for Jewish students during protests supporting Palestine. Legal actions have reportedly been filed, demanding substantial damages.

Critics interpret this move as an administrative pressure campaign against liberal universities. Previously, Columbia University, another Ivy League institution, agreed last summer to pay $20 million to the Trump administration. Under that agreement, Columbia committed to following non-discriminatory policies regarding admissions and recruitment.

However, according to The New York Times, after prolonged negotiations, the Trump administration has canceled its previous demand for a $20 million payment from Harvard. In September, Trump had indicated that negotiations were close to reaching a $50 million deal, which was said to include plans to open new trade schools.

But in a recent post on Monday evening, Trump claimed that Harvard’s proposed employment training plans were “complex and insufficient,” leading his administration to reject the offer. He accused Harvard of engaging in serious and egregious illegal activities while seeking to avoid a settlement exceeding $50 million, though he did not specify which laws were allegedly violated.

Meanwhile, another Ivy League institution, the University of Pennsylvania, reportedly caved to Trump administration pressure last year by announcing restrictions on transgender women’s participation in women’s sports.
