Case Against Government Witness for Making Adverse Statements

Feb 05, Kathmandu - A case has been filed against a government witness on charges of making adverse statements in a bribery case. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority filed a chargesheet against Tej Bahadur Tamang and Sanukancha Tamang, residents of Changunarayan Municipality-4, Bhaktapur, in the Special Court, Kathmandu on Thursday.

The Commission claims that during the investigation, it has been confirmed that the defendants Tej Bahadur and Sanukancha, along with the Chief Land Revenue Officer of the Land Reforms and Land Revenue Office, Bhaktapur, Kumar Acharya, and office assistant Tikaram Raut, exchanged bribes of Rs. 2.45 million in collusion and planning.

The Commission claims that the defendants accepted bribes on the pretext of facilitating the distribution and transfer of land plots No. 286 and 289 under the former Changunarayan Village Development Committee Ward No. 5 Kha and preparing landowner registration documents.

The Commission has sought imprisonment and fine as per clause (d) of sub-section (1) of Section 3 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059, fixing the amount of Rs. 2.45 million as per Sub-section (3) of Section 3 of the same Act.
