Vibrant Inter-School Folk Dance Competition Ignites Cultural Spirit in Biratnagar

Feb 08, Kathmandu - In a celebration of cultural heritage and student talent, Biratnagar Metropolitan City organized an inter-school folk dance competition aimed at primary-level students. The event, coordinated by Shri Secondary School Kanchanbari, brought together students from grades 6 to 8 over two days, showcasing the rich traditions of Nepali folk dance.

The first day of the competition featured a fierce contest among community schools within Biratnagar, with 26 schools participating. Based on preliminary evaluations, Pokhara Secondary School secured first place, followed by Gograh Secondary School in second, and Janata Baladhaar Basic School in third. Additionally, Satyanarayan Basic School, Madan Nagar Basic School, and the host school, Shri Secondary School Kanchanbari, advanced to the final round.

On the second day, the finalists from institutional and community schools competed head-to-head. The results crowned Madan Nagar Basic School as the champion, with Janata Baladhaar Basic School (Biratnagar-14) finishing second, Kantipur Secondary School third, and Polestar Boarding School in fourth place.

The top schools received cash prizes of Rs. 25,000, Rs. 20,000, Rs. 15,000, and Rs. 3,000 respectively, along with trophies, medals, and certificates. The competition, now in its third consecutive year, aims to preserve and promote local culture, recognize hidden student talents, and foster cooperation between community and institutional schools, according to Biratnagar Metropolitan City officials.

Over 350 students performed traditional folk dances representing various ethnic groups, celebrating Nepal’s diverse cultural tapestry. The event was inaugurated by Biratnagar Metropolitan City Chief Nagesh Koirala, with Kaji Bahadur Basnet, Social Development Committee Coordinator, distributing awards and certificates to the winning schools.
