Feb 10, Kathmandu - Fifty vehicles provided by the Indian government to the Nepali Army for the upcoming House of Representatives election have entered Nepal through the Bhairahawa border. The vehicles, valued at nearly 30 crore Nepali rupees, were imported under customs privileges in accordance with the Nepalese government's decision. These vehicles were supplied to support the Nepali Army via Indian military assistance for the election scheduled for Falgun 21.
According to the Bhairahawa Customs Office, the vehicles are Tata Model 2025 mini trucks imported from Jabalpur, India. Customs documents indicate the total value of these vehicles is approximately 184.2 million Indian Rupees. All of these vehicles entered Nepal under customs duty exemption.
Bhairahawa Customs Office Chief Harihar Poudel stated that, based on the letter from the Ministry of Finance approving the customs duty waiver, the vehicles were imported with customs privileges. He explained that 20 mini trucks with a capacity of 7.5 tons and 30 mini trucks with a capacity of 2.5 tons were brought into the country.
During customs inspection, a team including senior officials of the Nepali Army visited the customs office. After the inspection, the Nepali Army took the vehicles under security escort to Kathmandu from Bhairahawa.
Nepali Army Spokesperson Assistant Rathi Rajaram Basnet confirmed that, according to the mutual understanding between the Government of Nepal and the Government of India, these vehicles were brought to Nepal specifically for election purposes.
