Nepal-Korea Cooperation Strengthens in Photonics and Digital Innovation

Feb 12, Kathmandu - The International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) and the First International Conference on Photonics 2026 has been organized.

The conference brings together national and international experts, researchers, innovators and policymakers to explore advances in emerging technologies.

The conference aims to promote collaboration, innovation and sustainable technology adoption in Nepal. With keynote sessions, over 24 special themes and industry demonstrations, ICTP 2026 is expected to provide a unique opportunity for the media to cover cutting-edge research, technological breakthroughs and Nepal’s growing role in global innovation.

Meanwhile, South Korean Ambassador to Nepal Tae-Yong Park, who was the chief guest at the conference, said that the conference is truly a proud and historic moment for Nepal’s scientific and academic community, and that this collaboration reflects the strong and growing partnership between Nepal and Korea in science, technology, research and digital innovation.

He said, “This conference is truly a proud and historic moment for Nepal’s scientific and academic community. I am particularly pleased that this important conference is being organized in conjunction with the Global Digital Innovation and Impact Workshop led by the Graduate School of Global Digital Innovation, with the support of the Minister of Science and Information Technology of the Republic of Korea. This collaboration reflects the strong and growing partnership between Nepal and Korea in science, technology, research and digital innovation.’

He also said that in today’s rapidly changing world, technologies such as ICT, photonics, artificial intelligence and digital governance are shaping not only industries but also society and the future.

He also said that addressing global challenges in sustainability, smart governance or inclusive digital growth requires strong international collaboration, shared knowledge and mutual trust.

He also expressed his belief that platforms such as ICTP 2026 will play a vital role in bringing together researchers, policymakers, innovators and young talents to exchange ideas and transform research into meaningful impact.
