Feb 14, Kathmandu - In a significant move to enhance cancer treatment in Nepal, Nepal Medical College (NMC) and Kathmandu Cancer Center (KCC) have entered into a formal partnership to provide advanced radiotherapy services to cancer patients. The collaboration aims to deliver high-quality, accessible cancer care through a mutual understanding signed during an official program.
The partnership will see Nepal Medical College, located in Bhaktapur Thali, working closely with Kathmandu Cancer Center to streamline cancer treatment services. Currently, NMC boasts an oncology unit led by cancer specialist Dr. Rita Mahaseth, offering comprehensive cancer care beyond just radiotherapy.
According to Dr. Mahaseth, the oncology unit at NMC provides all cancer treatment services, with radiotherapy being a key component. The agreement was signed by NMC Managing Director Dr. Sabihah Yasmin and KCC Chairman Dr. Simit Sapkota.
Dr. Yasmin emphasized that this collaboration will enable patients to access top-tier healthcare services more conveniently. Dr. Sapkota expressed his commitment to providing efficient and effective healthcare to patients referred from Nepal Medical College, ensuring they receive quality treatment without hassle.
Under the terms of the agreement, Nepal Medical College will refer patients requiring radiotherapy to Kathmandu Cancer Center. Patients referred for radiotherapy will receive a 5% discount, while other services outside outsourcing will be available at a 10% discount.
Additionally, KCC will refer patients residing within or near Gokarneshwar Municipality for necessary treatments at NMC. The partnership also includes training initiatives for doctors, nurses, and paramedics at NMC to familiarize them with KCC’s services, ensuring seamless patient care.
This collaboration marks a significant step forward in Nepal’s fight against cancer, promising improved access to specialized treatment and better patient outcomes.
