Feb 16, Kathmandu - Former Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli is actively engaged in election campaigning in Jhapa 5. Throughout the day, he is visiting key intersections in Damak Municipality to meet with local voters.
According to Indra Bhandari, coordinator of the election campaign sub-committee, Oli’s schedule began at 11 a.m. with a voter interaction at Yalambar Chowk in Damak 5. Following this, at 11:50 a.m., he is scheduled to engage with residents at Shankhdhar Chowk in Damak 6. In the afternoon, Oli plans to meet locals at Tavin Chowk in Damak 7 at 1 p.m. and at Habaladar Chowk in Damak 1 at 2 p.m.
After a meeting at Damak Fun Park in Damak 2 at 3 p.m., he will attend a program at Aam Chowk in Damak 3 at 4 p.m., which is expected to conclude his day of voter interactions.
Earlier on Sunday, Oli participated in an internal discussion organized by the Nepal Teachers Organization at Himalaya Secondary School in Damak 2. During the event, he accused youth groups (JENZI) of causing unrest through criminal activities, rather than genuine youth activism. He emphasized that the violence and vandalism were orchestrated by criminals infiltrating the youth movement.
Oli also criticized the previous government's handling of the issue, stating that despite multiple calls for dialogue during his tenure as Prime Minister, teachers' representatives refused to engage, leading to unresolved problems. He pointed out that the protests were not driven by teachers or students but were influenced by opposition-affiliated teachers from Congress and Maoist factions, which hindered the movement’s progress.
