Kathmandu City to Manage Parking Facilities at Dharahara Reconstruction Site

Feb 20, Kathmandu - The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has announced that it will oversee the management of vehicle parking operations within the newly constructed structure at Dharahara in Sundhara.

Following a joint meeting between the Government of Nepal and Kathmandu Metropolitan City held on Friday, decisions were made to enhance the effectiveness of parking services at Dharahara. The metropolitan authorities will deploy police forces to ensure smooth parking management within the site.

The meeting also established a joint committee comprising officials from the Ministry of Urban Development and Kathmandu Metropolitan City to study, analyze, and propose short-term and long-term plans for the operation and management of Dharahara. The committee will prepare recommendations and strategies for sustainable management.

Urban Development Minister Prof. Dr. Kumar Ingnam stated that Kathmandu Metropolitan City has agreed to manage parking and security outside the Dharahara structure and will bear all related financial responsibilities. He emphasized that the city will prioritize immediate actions related to parking and security arrangements.

Furthermore, Minister Ingnam announced the formation of a committee tasked with transferring complete management rights of Dharahara to the metropolitan city, which will develop necessary modalities for the handover.

Kathmandu Metropolitan City's Acting Chief, Sunita Dangol, added that the city has been entrusted with necessary and appropriate works regarding the outer structure of Dharahara. She urged for the full transfer of the overall management of Dharahara to the metropolis.

The discussion was attended by Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal and representatives from other relevant agencies.
