Supreme Court Orders Retrieval of Medical Professional Durga Prasai's Case File

Feb 23, Kathmandu - The Supreme Court of Nepal has directed the authorities to retrieve the case file of medical professional Durga Prasai.

On Monday, a joint bench of Justices Dr. Nahakul Suvedi and Meghraj Pokharel ordered the Office of the Attorney General to obtain the case file. The instruction came during the hearing of a habeas corpus petition filed on behalf of Prasai. The court based its order on a written response submitted by the District Police Office, which indicated that Prasai was detained following an investigation initiated by the Election Commission.

The police response stated that Prasai was detained after the Election Commission sent a letter regarding an investigation. Accordingly, the Supreme Court has ordered the full investigation file, including the commission’s letter, to be retrieved for review.

The court has prioritized the habeas corpus petition filed by Prasai, with a hearing scheduled for Falgun 12.
