Feb 24, Kathmandu - The Supreme Court has ordered the release of medical practitioner Durga Prasai, who was arrested on charges of disrupting the election.
Prasai was arrested by the police from his residence in Bhaktapur on Falgun 9. He had been kept in detention with repeated extensions by the court.
Prasai was accused of committing an offense against public peace by spreading rumors. The Supreme Court has issued an order in the name of the District Police Range, Kathmandu, Bhradrakali, in response to the custodial interrogation writ filed by Uma Prasai for his release. Prasai is in the process of being released as per the order of a joint bench of Supreme Court Justices Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma and Nityanand Pandey.
Prasai is also the coordinator of the Rashtra, Rakshitata Dharma Sanskriti and Nagarik Bachau Abhiyan. He was arrested twice in the month of Magh and released. He was arrested again on February 19.
This is the seventh time he has been arrested and released. Prasai was first arrested on September 20, 2081. Since then, he has been continuously arrested. Recently, he has been advocating for the restoration of Hindu Rajya and the monarchy.
