Green Diplomacy: Nepal and India Ink Historic Deal to Protect Wildlife and Biodiversity

Feb 26, Kathmandu - In a major boost to South Asian conservation efforts, the governments of Nepal and Nepal have officially signed a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on biodiversity conservation and the protection of transborder wildlife corridors.

The agreement was signed on Wednesday in New Delhi in the presence of Nepal’s Minister for Forests and Environment, Madhav Prasad Chaulagain, and India’s Minister for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav.

Strategic Partnership for "Pillars of the Wild"

Both nations share porous borders that serve as critical habitats and migratory routes for endangered species. The MoU aims to create a unified front to protect:

• Key Species: Ensuring safe passage and habitat security for Elephants, Rhinos, and Tigers.

• Biological Corridors: Managing the protected areas that straddle the international boundary.

• Crime Control: Strengthening coordination to dismantle international wildlife poaching and illegal trade networks.
