Nepal Implements Fuel Sale Ban to Ensure Fair and Peaceful Election Process

Feb 27, Kathmandu - In a decisive move to ensure a free, fair, transparent, and peaceful election, the District Administration Office has imposed a ban on the open sale of petroleum products. The restriction targets the sale of petrol, diesel, and kerosene in bottles, jerry cans, or other open containers during the election period.

Assistant Chief District Officer Janak Sharma stated that all petrol pumps and fuel vendors must register with the relevant authorities and operate legally. Unregistered individuals or entities are prohibited from selling or distributing petroleum products.

The administration also announced measures to prevent artificial shortages, overpricing, and hoarding of fuel meant to be used for election-related activities. Fuel will only be supplied to essential vehicles such as ambulances, hospitals, security agencies, and election-related transportation, based on official permits or identification.

To enforce these regulations, the District Administration Office, security agencies, and Nepal Oil Corporation will conduct regular and surprise inspections. Violators will face legal action, including fines, suspension or cancellation of licenses, in accordance with prevailing laws.

The authorities urge fuel businesses, transport operators, and the public to strictly adhere to the directives. They are also advised to report any suspicious activities to the administration or security agencies immediately.
