Mar 05, Kathmandu- At the polling station located at Sahid Smriti School in Manebhanjyang-7, Okhaldhunga, not a single voter has cast their ballot until 12 p.m., according to local sources.
Local resident Kumar Gautam announced that voters have decided to boycott the election, citing their decision not to participate in the voting process. The boycott follows the community’s dissatisfaction with the government's failure to establish a regional hospital on land provided by locals in Harkapur, Thoksel. Despite the community’s efforts and the initiation of the process to build the hospital, no progress has been made, prompting residents to withdraw from the election.
The locals, having expressed their concerns, launched a ‘No Vote’ campaign after their demands were ignored by authorities. Election officials have recorded the attendance of candidates’ representatives and taken the election rolls, but no voters have shown up, said Chief Election Officer Hari Prasad Koirala.
Officials remain on site, prepared to conduct voting if voters arrive; otherwise, temporary election staff will cast ballots to close the polling center, Koirala added.
The center has a registered voter population of 701. Although locals had initially provided 167 ropani of land to facilitate the construction of the regional hospital, work has yet to commence. Despite the election preparations being complete, Election Officer Pravas Rai stated that no voters have arrived so far, and officials are awaiting voters’ participation.
