Mar 05, Kathmandu - The voting process for the Federal Parliament member elections was peacefully and enthusiastically conducted nationwide today, apart from minor incidents.
According to the Election Commission, voting commenced at 7:00 AM and concluded at 5:00 PM. However, Election Commissioner Dr. Janaki Kumari Thuladhar stated that voters remaining in line at polling stations by 5:00 PM would still be allowed to cast their ballots.
The Commission reported that so far, no polling station has officially announced any suspension of voting. Brief disputes in Dolakha, Sarlahi, and Rautahat were resolved within a short period. Voting at the Malu polling station in Tamakoshi-4, Dolakha, is ongoing after a temporary delay.
The Election Commission is scheduled to hold a press conference at 6:15 PM today to provide detailed information on the election process.
In the direct election system, 61 political parties are competing across 65 symbols. A total of 3,406 candidates are participating in the direct election, including 3,017 men, 388 women, and one other.
For proportional representation, 1,363 men and 1,772 women—totaling 3,135 candidates—are vying for seats. Elections are being held in 165 constituencies for the direct system and 110 for proportional representation.
The election has a total electorate of 10,963,358 men, 9,240,131 women, and 200 others, totaling 18,903,689 voters. Additionally, there are 186,142 temporary voters registered.
A total of 10,967 polling stations across the country, including 143 temporary stations, have been set up for the election. Priority measures were in place to facilitate vulnerable groups such as senior citizens, persons with disabilities, pregnant women, and the visually impaired.
Security arrangements include 79,727 personnel from the Nepal Army, 75,797 from the Nepal Police, 34,567 from the Armed Police Force, 1,921 from the National Investigation Department, and 149,090 election police personnel.
