Prakash Gautam of RSP Wins in Makwanpur-1

Mar 08, Kathmandu - Makwanpur-1 has seen a decisive victory for Prakash Gautam of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP). The 37-year-old candidate from Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City-5 secured over 36,033 votes to win the election.

Gautam defeated Mahalakshmi Upadhyaya of the Nepali Congress, who garnered 14,038 votes. Renu Rani of CPN-UML finished third with 12,783 votes.

The previous election’s winner, Deepak Bahadur Singh of the RPP, slipped to sixth place with 4,574 votes. Other candidates included Bijay Gautam of the CPN-UML, who received 10,788 votes, Surendra Lama of Ujyalo Nepal Party with 10,205 votes, and Bidya Shrestha of the Labour and Culture Party with 1,024 votes. A total of 95,310 votes were cast in this constituency.

In the 2008 Constituent Assembly Election, Rani faced defeat, and this election marks her fifth consecutive loss in direct elections. She had previously lost to Singh in the 2079 parliamentary elections from the same constituency, where Singh received 27,816 votes and Dina received 25,434 votes.

Bijay Rani also made her second attempt to enter the federal parliament, after her previous unsuccessful bid. This election marks Gautam’s first time contesting in the federal parliamentary election.
