Mar 09, Kathmandu - The newly elected members of the National Assembly have expressed their strong commitment to working in the best interests of the nation and its people.
Speaking to the media after taking the oath of office and secrecy at Singha Durbar on Monday, the members emphasized their focus on drafting essential laws, policies, and legislation to benefit the country and its citizens.
Mandating their responsibilities under the constitution, National Assembly member Mahanta Thakur stated that they would work according to their constitutional duties. He acknowledged their role in lawmaking but also voiced concern that the public expects development, which sometimes leads to challenges.
Similarly, fellow member Ranjit Karna highlighted the need for the House of Representatives and the National Assembly to work together for national progress. He stressed the importance of enacting necessary laws related to development and good governance, emphasizing that their focus should be on the nation’s interests.
Karna also dismissed the significance of a two-thirds majority, asserting that no law would be blocked in the national interest and that members are committed to cooperating fully.
Meanwhile, Ram Kumari Jhakri stated that she would work collaboratively with all stakeholders to serve the interests of the people and the nation. She emphasized that the National Assembly would continue to operate responsibly, similar to the House of Representatives.
Jhankri also mentioned that the party committee would soon review the results of the recent House of Representatives elections.
