Nepal’s Anti-Corruption Commission Files Charges Against Police Sub-Inspector for Fraudulent Promotions

Mar 10, Kathmandu - The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against former Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mukta Narayan Shrestha of the Communications Branch at the Sunsari District Police Office. The case was officially registered in the Special Court on Tuesday.

According to the CIAA, Shrestha is accused of obtaining promotions and government benefits based on fake certificates, leading to the commission of corruption-related offenses. The allegations state that he used fraudulent educational documents to secure a promotion to the position of Assistant Sub-Inspector.

The commission further alleges that Shrestha submitted false and counterfeit certificates, including one purportedly issued by India’s Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), to secure his promotion. Investigation confirmed that the educational certificates he presented were fake, and he had exploited his position to receive various benefits, including retirement benefits and other allowances from the Nepali government.

The CIAA stated that an official complaint had been filed regarding the forged educational documents, prompting an investigation that uncovered the use of falsified certificates for career advancement.
