Mar 12, Kathmandu - More than 100 prisoners who escaped from Chitwan Prison remain unaccounted for. Among the escapees, 11 are Indian nationals.
On Bhadra 24, a total of 743 inmates, including four minors, fled the prison. Of these, 643 have been apprehended—some voluntarily returned, while others were arrested by police. According to Office Chief Rabindra Prasad Dhungana, the escape of serious offenders raises concerns about potential increases in criminal activities in the community.
The prison office had urged escapees to contact the authorities by Asadha 20. They warned that failure to do so within the specified time would lead to legal action under the Prison Act 2079 and applicable laws. Additionally, anyone found sheltering or harboring the escapees will also be prosecuted as accomplices.
Currently, the prison houses 685 inmates, including 38 women.
