Mar 12, Kathmandu - Iran has attacked the US-owned oil tanker 'Safesea Vishnu' with a suicide boat. An Indian national was killed in the attack, while the other crew members on board have been safely rescued.
According to news agency PTI, Iran attacked the US-owned and Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker 'Safety Vishnu' near the Khor Al Zubair port, which is within Iraq's territorial waters, on Wednesday using a suicide boat.
One Indian died in the attack
It has been confirmed that an Indian national has been killed in the incident. However, the name of the deceased has not been made public yet. It is said that the 27 crew members and employees on the tanker have been rescued safely and taken to the Iraqi city of Basra. It is learned that 15 of those rescued are Indian nationals.
The company expresses deep sorrow
According to sources related to ‘Safesea’ who spoke on condition of anonymity, the company said that it is deeply saddened by the news of the loss of life of an Indian national in this attack. The company has urged the Indian government to strongly condemn the attack and take immediate and effective measures for the safety of the crew members working on the ship, who are at risk due to the escalating conflict in West Asia.

According to the website ‘VesselFinder’, which provides information on maritime vessels, ‘Safesea Vishnu’ is a crude oil tanker. Its length is 228.6 meters and width is 32.57 meters. The ship was built in 2007 and was currently operating under the flag of the Marshall Islands. The incident is said to have taken place at a time when the security of ships moving through maritime routes is becoming more challenging due to the recent increasing political and military tensions in West Asia.
