Major Nepali Congress Leaders Urge Gagan Thapa to Stay Calm and Not Resign Amid Party Turmoil

Mar 14, Kathmandu - In a significant development within the Nepali Congress, over thirty senior leaders have collectively urged party Chairman Gagan Thapa to refrain from resigning from his position. The leaders, under the leadership of Co-Minister Prakash Rasaili ‘Snehi,’ met with Thapa on Saturday and advised him to remain steadfast amid internal challenges.

Rasaili explained that their appeal was rooted in the belief that Thapa’s leadership is crucial during this turbulent period for the party, the country, and the constitution. “At this critical juncture, your leadership is essential to steer the party towards stability and hold the 15th General Convention,” he emphasized.

The leaders also expressed that electoral losses are a natural part of parliamentary politics and should not be taken as a personal failure. They reassured Thapa that voter shifts and occasional mistakes in voting should be understood as part of the democratic process.

Several central members, including Janka Raj Giri, Madhu Acharya, Ajay Babu Shiwakoti, Pramod Guragai, Pradeep Sharma, Ganga Sunar, Bishnu Pandey, and Sita Mijar, also visited Thapa to convey their support.

Following unfavorable results in the Falgun 21 elections, voices within the party have begun to call for Thapa’s resignation. Thapa himself reportedly expressed his contemplations of resigning during a recent meeting with Vice President Bishwa Bhakta Shrestha.

The ongoing internal disagreements highlight the urgent need for unity and strong leadership as the Nepali Congress navigates a challenging political landscape.
