Writ Petition against Amendment of Rabi Lamichhane's indictment before bench of Subedi and Pokharel

Mar 15, Kathmandu - The Supreme Court has filed a writ petition challenging the decision to amend the case against Rabi Lamichhane, leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), which cleared him of money-laundering and organized-crime charges. The petition was submitted today Chaitra 1 in a bench comprising Justices Sharanga Subedi and Sunil Kumar Pokhrel.

The case was scheduled for full hearing today in a bench including Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla. Justice Pokhrel had previously defended Lamichhane in a citizenship and passport misuse case when he became a Member of Parliament.

The Attorney General’s Office, led by Sabita Bhandari, had recommended that Lamichhane be acquitted of the charges. However, before this decision could be implemented, senior lawyer Dinesh Tripathi, activist Yuvraj Safal, and lawyer Abha Regmi filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court challenging it.

Furthermore, the district courts of Rupandehi and Kaski have not accepted the decision based on the same petition, indicating ongoing legal disputes over the case.
