Lalitpur's Shreeram Gas Industry fined Rs 300,000 for Defrauding Consumers

Mar 16, Kathmandu - The Department of Commercial Supplies and Consumer Protection has imposed a fine of Rs 300,000 on the Shreeram Gas Industry in Harisiddhi, Lalitpur. The department imposed the fine on the spot after a team of the department found that the industry had committed fraud during a market monitoring.

The department stated that the cash penalty was imposed on the basis of violating Clause (g) of Sub-section 2 of Section 16 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2075 BS and violating Sub-section 1 of Section 16 of the same act.

For the past few days, there has been an outcry among consumers saying that there is a shortage of LP gas for cooking in the market. In such a difficult situation, industrialists, businessmen and sellers are being accused of hiding gas and charging higher prices. The department took action after the company was found to have done wrong in such a situation.

Similarly, the department has imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on Badi Malika Khadiya Bhandar, Maiti Devi, and Rs 5,000 on Duwadi Store and Multi Trade in Kirtipur, which were acting in violation of the Consumer Protection Act.
